Chapter 522 - 480: Regret (Part 3)
Upon hearing the teacher’s words, the children quickly sat up properly, their eyes sparkling as they stared eagerly at the upcoming distribution of delicious snacks, with their little hands placed behind their backs, showcasing their best behavior.
Hearing the mention of "donkey rolling," Yao Ruobing and Chu Yilin’s eyes immediately glimmered with a hint of longing.
"Wow, it’s donkey rolling! It’s my favorite!" Yao Ruobing couldn’t help but whisper to Chu Yilin, "Looks like we came at just the right time today..."
"Yeah, totally!" Chu Yilin nodded excitedly. "I always knew Dorami Kindergarten had great food, but I didn’t expect the snacks to be so enticing. I just wonder if we’ll have the chance to taste one later!"
"Uh... let’s hope we do..." Yao Ruobing, catching the aroma wafting through the air, couldn’t help swallowing hard.
Just then.
Liang Yinqiu approached, smiling at the two of them, and said, "Dr. Yao, Dr. Chu, why don’t you take a break and let the kids finish their snacks before resuming work?"
The two nodded in agreement, "Sure, that sounds good."
Lian Yinqiu added with a smile, "Then why don’t you both come over and have some snacks first, and taste Chef Huang’s handiwork in our kindergarten!"
"Thank you, Director Liang, well... we won’t stand on ceremony then!"
Hearing this, Yao Ruobing and Chu Yilin were visibly delighted, and without further ado, nodded and agreed.
After all, they knew that if they hesitated, Liang Yinqiu might not insist, and the delicious donkey rolling in their grasp could slip away. They’d regret it too late by then.
The two followed Liang Yinqiu to the side of the catering cart and received two donkey rolling.
Before starting to eat, Yao Ruobing couldn’t resist taking out her phone, opening the camera, and capturing a perfect picture of the donkey rolling right in front of her.
She sent it to her best friend Li Qiqi.
Li Qiqi replied instantly: ???
Li Qiqi: Bingbing, where did you get the donkey rolling?
Yao Ruobing replied: This is today’s snack at Dorami Kindergarten – donkey rolling!
Li Qiqi: !!!∑(゚Д゚ノ)ノ
Li Qiqi: I am so jealous! I wish I knew if you could send some to me by courier?
Yao Ruobing: I can’t, I don’t even have enough for myself!
Li Qiqi: (╥╯^╰╥)
Li Qiqi: Can you at least share a tip on how to snag some of these snacks?
Yao Ruobing: That’s a secret!
Li Qiqi: Hmph, this is the end of our friendship!
Yao Ruobing was already well aware of Li Qiqi’s little temper, so she didn’t take it to heart at all. Instead, she cheerfully popped the donkey rolling in her hand into her mouth, taking a bite, and the sensation was simply amazing!
The outer layer of soybean flour was as delicate as the spring rain, melting silently on the tongue, bringing a faint soybean aroma that warmed the heart rather than overpowering it.
Once the teeth broke through the soybean flour barrier, they encountered the soft and sticky glutinous rice inside.
The consistency of the glutinous rice was just right, neither so sticky as to make the teeth uncomfortable nor so soft that it dissolved upon pressing. It left a lingering, delicate aftertaste, like biting into a cloud or your tongue sliding over silk, a sensation that’s indescribably satisfying.
And then there’s the sweetness in the dough, thanks to the red bean paste filling.
Sweet but subtle, gentle without being overwhelming, it perfectly filled the gap between the rice cake and soybean powder.
This sweetness wasn’t cloying at all; instead, it was refreshing, leaving you wanting more and completely satisfying her little craving for sweets.
What surprised her the most was the varied texture with each bite of the donkey rolling; the outer soybean flour was dry, the glutinous rice inside was soft, and the red bean paste in the middle was sweet and moist. The three blended seamlessly, harmonizing like a symphony of flavors, irresistibly drawing you in bite after bite, totally immersed in this marvelous taste journey...
While savoring her snack, Yao Ruobing couldn’t help but exclaim, "Wow, Chef Huang’s skills are truly exceptional... this donkey rolling is the best I’ve ever tasted!"
Chu Yilin eagerly nodded in agreement, "Absolutely, the soybean flour was sprinkled perfectly, not too much nor too little, with a texture that was simply perfect. The glutinous rice was steamed to the perfect softness, and the red bean paste was sweet without being cloying. The three elements combined flawlessly. I’ve never had such delicious donkey rolling before!"
The two kept praising as they indulged, and before they knew it, both pieces of donkey rolling had disappeared into their tummies.
Though still a bit unsatisfied, out of politeness, they refrained from asking for more and instead looked forward to lunch with anticipation.
Unfortunately...
Their great expectations were ultimately misplaced...
After the kids enjoyed their delicious donkey rolling breakfast, each one had a satisfied smile on their face. They also learned that in the afternoon, Huang Jun would prepare little snacks as special rewards for those who behaved bravely while getting their shots.
The children’s enthusiasm was instantly ignited, with their eyes shining bright. In hopes of earning those tempting rewards, they each tried to display the demeanor of "little warriors," no longer hesitating or dragging their feet, but lined up in an orderly fashion, eagerly offering their arms to Yao Ruobing and Chu Yilin, impatiently insisting on getting vaccinated as soon as possible.
As a result, what was originally scheduled to be completed by 11:30 AM got finished just before 10:30 AM.
This didn’t fare well for them.
Chu Yilin and Yao Ruobing ended up having no chance to snag lunch at the kindergarten and had to leave somewhat regretfully.
Fortunately, they had already savored the kindergarten’s special snack – donkey rolling, which served as a subtle consolation for their spirits.
Though unable to continue enjoying lunch, they secretly decided that next time, they would surely find another opportunity to taste Huang Jun’s culinary skills once more.
Let’s hope such an opportunity won’t keep them waiting long...
