Chapter 453: Change How You Address Me—Call Me Husband
Evelyn was surprised, "You can’t say that?"
Caden Lockwood shook his head, "That doesn’t create a conversation atmosphere."
Looking at Caden’s imposing manner that demanded compliance, Evelyn stood there feeling troubled.
She didn’t want to confront him,
but wasn’t his request a bit embarrassing?
Even though she was grateful that he had saved her recklessly, she was equally afraid of his unrestrained demands that night!
"Did the doctor ever tell you that if I’m depressed and irritable, my headaches will become more frequent?" Caden’s tone was calm and detached, as if speaking about something that had nothing to do with him.
Yet, every word was pressuring Evelyn.
Evelyn could only compromise.
She admitted that what she desired the least at this moment was for anything to happen to Caden again.
Clenching her fists tightly, Evelyn mustered the courage to slightly lift the covers, then cautiously lay down.
She was very careful, maintaining a distance between herself and Caden, especially since her whole body was still slightly trembling.
Caden could see Evelyn’s fear entirely.
His dark brows furrowed slightly; even now, she was full of gratitude towards him, yet still so afraid.
If it hadn’t been for the kidnappers or him taking the bullet for her, he truly doubted whether she would ever forgive him in this lifetime.
It turns out that the phrase "a blessing in disguise" is not a lie!
"Does it still hurt?" Caden asked without forcing Evelyn into his embrace.
Evelyn shook her head, then nodded, her face inadvertently showing grievance.
Caden’s gaze darkened as he held Evelyn’s hand gently, "It’s my fault."
Evelyn didn’t dare look at Caden; she didn’t yet have the courage to discuss such matters with him and would feel shy.
"I know it’s difficult for you to trust me unconditionally, but there are some things I don’t tell you not because I want to keep them from you intentionally but because I don’t want to involve you in more complicated matters," Caden said in a deep voice. "I hope I can protect you, allowing you to live a carefree life just as before you met me."
"But if you don’t say anything, I really will start guessing blindly!" Evelyn frowned, "Guessing blindly is in everyone’s nature; I can’t control it. Even someone as strong as you, don’t you guess blindly too?"
Caden awkwardly curled his lips, suddenly at a loss for words against Evelyn’s argument.
"That night, the girl you saw dead, she had no romantic involvement with me whatsoever. Does this explanation still not alleviate your doubts?" Caden asked.
"But... everyone has curiosity; knowing a little makes one want to know more," Evelyn admitted honestly, "Can’t you just tell me everything, uncle?"
"No," Caden stated firmly.
"That’s just too..."
"Also, you should change how you address me." Caden interrupted Evelyn, "From now on, call me husband; don’t call me uncle anymore."
Evelyn shuddered heavily, thinking Caden must be crazy!
Couldn’t his thoughts be less erratic?
They were just discussing the matter of the girl who jumped to her death!
Feeling displeased, Evelyn harshly responded with two words, "No way!"
"No way?" Caden frowned, "Evelyn, you are not allowed to refuse! Don’t we have a marriage certificate? Haven’t we been intimate as husband and wife? How can you say no?"
