Chapter 10 Joining the Hunter Team
Chapter 10 Joining the Hunter Team
The next morning, Ye Feng contacted Zhao Laoda, the captain of the hunter team.
The two agreed to meet at 10 o'clock in an old warehouse district in the east of the city.
Ye Feng arrived at the meeting place.
The buildings here are noticeably more dilapidated than those in the city center, yet there are far more people coming and going.
Moreover, most of them carried weapons and had a rugged aura that could only be found in the wilderness.
This is where hunters gather.
All the procedures for leaving the city, equipment resupply, and trade of exotic beast materials are handled in this area.
He could only see a row of corrugated iron warehouses in front of him.
Several modified SUVs and pickup trucks were parked at the entrance of the warehouse.
The car body is welded with steel plates, the windows are fitted with iron railings, and the tires are wide and thick.
At first glance, it looks like it was specially modified for wilderness road conditions.
Ye Feng pushed open an iron door, revealing a spacious warehouse. Several people were eating around a table, and they all looked up when they heard the noise.
Sitting in the very center was a middle-aged man in his forties. He had a square face, thick eyebrows, and a hideous scar running from his left eye to his chin.
He was wearing a shiny leather jacket with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his muscular forearms.
This man is Zhao Tieshan.
A woman in her thirties was sitting next to him.
The woman had short hair, her skin was tanned to a wheat color, and she wore a camouflage jacket draped over her shoulders, making her look exceptionally capable.
She was slowly gnawing on a meat bone. Across from her were two young men, who looked to be in their late twenties.
One was bald, with a face full of fat, and his arms were thicker than Ye Feng's thighs.
The other young man was rather refined, wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, and seemed somewhat out of place among the group of rugged hunters.
"Boss Zhao?" Ye Feng walked over with a grin, pulled up a chair and sat down, showing no sign of timidity.
Zhao Tieshan put down his cup and looked at Ye Feng.
"The person Lei Xiong recommended?" His voice was low and hoarse.
"Yes." Ye Feng nodded.
"Tier 1? No, early Tier 2." Zhao Tieshan narrowed his eyes slightly. "Lei Xiong said your talent stats are pretty good?"
"Yes."
"What entry has been awakened?"
Ye Feng hesitated for a moment: "Speed type."
He didn't mention the double purple entries.
It's not that I don't trust them, it's that there's no need to.
In the wilderness, never reveal your hand to others.
Zhao Tieshan nodded and did not ask any further questions.
"Since it was Lei Xiong who introduced us, I won't waste any more words."
He pointed to the people around him, "This is Hong Gu, our team's scout. The bald guy is Lao Ma, the gunner. The one with glasses is A Kun, the technician and logistics guy."
Hong Gu nodded to Ye Feng and continued gnawing on the bone. Old Ma grinned, revealing a set of white teeth.
Ah Kun pushed up his glasses.
"Student?" Akun asked.
"I just started my freshman year, and I'll be a sophomore after the summer break."
"You haven't started your internship yet, have you?" Old Ma laughed. "Old Zhao, when did we become a daycare center?"
Hong Gu tapped the table with a bone: "Shut up."
Old Ma immediately stopped laughing.
Zhao Tieshan looked at Ye Feng: "Lei Xiong said you have a good foundation, but let me make this clear beforehand, the wilderness is not a martial arts school."
"The beasts in the martial arts school are kept in cages, while the beasts in the wilderness eat people."
"If you come out of the city with us, we will do our best to ensure your safety, but if you encounter any danger, no one can guarantee your life."
"I see."
"Good, I understand." Zhao Tieshan stood up. "The rules are simple: the spoils from hunting exotic beasts will be distributed according to contribution. As a newcomer, you'll get a smaller share. Any objections?"
"no."
"Alright then." Zhao Tieshan glanced at him. "Shall we leave today? Is that alright?"
"Okay," Ye Feng replied.
Zhao Laoda was surprised by Ye Feng's clean and efficient answer.
I couldn't help but take a few more glances.
This little guy is truly extraordinary, just as Boss Lei said!
"Alright, let's go then."
Half an hour later.
Zhao Laoda, Ye Feng, and the other three left the warehouse together and got into a modified pickup truck.
The pickup truck was painted in dark green camouflage, and a weapon rack was installed on the truck bed, with a modified heavy machine gun welded on it.
This is their squad's exclusive vehicle and heavy firepower support unit.
Old Ma got into the driver's seat and started the car, while Ah Kun sat in the passenger seat. Ye Feng, Zhao Tieshan, and Hong Gu sat in the back.
Old Ma started the pickup truck.
They drove through the streets of the east side of the city, finally passing through a checkpoint.
This is a huge city wall with the two large characters "Jiangcheng" engraved on it.
The city wall is over 20 meters high and is made of reinforced concrete and special alloys.
It is the strongest line of defense in Jiangcheng.
"This is Jiangcheng's last line of defense." Zhao Tieshan said, somewhat disappointed.
"The area outside is just wilderness."
"Only a few makeshift fortresses belonging to the Night's Watch remain in the wilderness!"
"That was Jiangcheng's last hope for counterattacking the alien beasts and reclaiming lost territory."
Zhao Tieshan's tone was heavy, seemingly filled with resentment and disappointment.
The pickup truck passed through the city gate and drove onto a bumpy road.
Ye Feng turned around and glanced at the tall city walls of Jiangcheng.
Turning back, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar world.
On both sides of the highway are vast, barren plains overgrown with weeds, and occasionally you can see the ruins of buildings covered with vines.
"Is this your first time leaving the city?" Hong Gu suddenly asked.
"Yes."
Are you nervous?
Ye Feng thought for a moment: "A little."
This was his first time leaving Jiangcheng for the wilderness, and it would be a lie to say he wasn't nervous.
Hong Gu glanced at him, seemingly somewhat surprised by his honesty.
"Being nervous is the right thing to do. People who aren't nervous are all dead."
After driving for about half an hour, the highway completely disappeared, replaced by a rugged dirt road and gravel.
Old Ma drove very steadily, clearly very familiar with the area.
"There's an abandoned checkpoint ahead," Ah Kun said, looking at the tablet in his hand, which displayed a map.
"Recently, hunters have reported signs of Ironback Wolves in that area. We can go check it out."
Zhao Tieshan nodded: "Let's go over there first."
Just then, the sound of an engine came from ahead.
Several cars turned out of the fork in the road and drove towards us. They were three black SUVs.
Several cars had a logo printed on them: a sharp sword piercing through a crescent moon.
The Night Watchman.
Ye Feng recognized the logo.
Three cars stopped in front of them.
The door of the first car opened, and several people got out, all dressed in uniform black combat suits with weapons hanging from their waists.
The leader was a man in his thirties with a square face, a buzz cut, and sharp eyes.
He walked over to the pickup truck and glanced at the people inside.
"The Revenant?"
Zhao Tieshan got out of the car and bowed slightly: "Greetings, gentlemen. We are a hunter team from the west of the city, out on a mission."
The man didn't reply, his gaze sweeping over everyone. When he saw Ye Feng, he paused slightly.
"student?"
Ye Feng met his gaze, neither humble nor arrogant: "Yes, I just got into university this year."
"Why are college students coming to this remote area instead of staying in the city?"
"I'm learning and gaining experience from my seniors," Ye Feng answered truthfully.
The man looked at him for two seconds, said nothing more, and turned to look at Zhao Tieshan.
"The wilderness has been quite unsettled lately, with unusual beasts being much more active than usual. We've already received several reports of hunter teams being attacked."
"Be careful, don't go any deeper."
Zhao Tieshan nodded hurriedly: "Understood, understood, thank you for reminding me, sir."
The man waved and led the group back to the car.
Three SUVs started up and drove past the pickup truck, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Once the car was far away, Old Ma finally let out a long sigh of relief: "Damn, that scared me to death."
"The night watchmen are checking the car, what are you afraid of?" Hong Gu rolled her eyes at him.
"Aren't you afraid?" Old Ma wiped the sweat from his forehead. "These are the Night's Watch vanguard, every single one of them is a killer."
"That's because you're a coward. Look at Ye Feng!" Hong Gu said calmly.
"you!"
"Alright," Zhao Tieshan interrupted them, got back into the car, and said, "Let's keep going."
The pickup truck restarted.
Ye Feng gazed thoughtfully in the direction the Night Watch convoy had gone.
Vanguard Battalion.
In a few days, he will also be joining that place.
Those vanguard battalion members did indeed possess a different aura from ordinary martial artists, like a sword ready to be drawn at any moment.
"Kid," Old Ma glanced at him in the rearview mirror, "weren't you scared just now?"
"What's there to be afraid of?" Ye Feng retorted.
Old Ma paused for a moment, then laughed: "You've got guts."
Hong Gu also glanced at Ye Feng, her gaze revealing something she hadn't seen before.
"The wilderness is not like the city," Zhao Tieshan's voice came from the front row. "You heard what the Night Watchman said earlier; the monsters have been active lately. Stay close to us and don't wander off."
"clear."
The pickup truck continued forward, driving deeper and deeper into the wilderness.
On the distant hills, something could be vaguely seen moving.
Under the hazy sky, a group of black dots hovered, I couldn't tell if they were birds or something else.
Ye Feng gripped the hilt of the knife at his waist, his mind unusually calm.
Kill points await him.
