Chapter 2350 - 2349: Recasting?
"If he really insists on playing a role," Nangong Lin thought for a moment and said, "then he can only play the scientist. Having a scientist with a foreign boyfriend makes sense."
"It’s like, the two are in a long-distance relationship, and the scientist develops someone from his own country who looks like the heroine but with some foreign traits, so she doesn’t feel lonely abroad. So, if the three of us are really going to act in this movie and have to assign roles, then Alvin should be the scientist and Xiaoyu should be the robot."
She said this without any personal bias—many times, even film productions must adhere to logic.
If you make a movie with no logic, what are you even filming for, just for laughs?
Alvin looked at Nangong Lin, "You make a good point, but can we wait for the director to come and hear his thoughts before we proceed?"
Actually, Alvin wasn’t particularly adamant about playing the robot. As long as he could be in the same cast as Nangong Lin, he was happy.
But then he suddenly remembered what John said before—this robot would have quite a few intimate scenes with Nangong Lin!
However, he wasn’t in a rush and decided to wait and see what the director would say.
Right amidst this argument, the director finally arrived, apologizing profusely as he came in, "Sorry to keep everyone waiting; there was a traffic accident, and my car was stuck in a jam for a long time. My apologies for making you wait."
"No worries," Nangong Lin smiled, "Director Liu, have a seat."
"Alright," Director Liu nodded and, without any fuss, sat down and picked up the materials on the table.
"Shall we officially start the meeting?" Nangong Lin took the lead.
"Yes," Director Liu nodded.
"Okay," Nangong Lin nodded back and directly asked, "Were these roles decided by you, Director Liu? I’m just curious, why is Alvin cast as the robot? Yes, Alvin has tremendous appeal and tons of fans, but this is a movie, not a concert. With your twenty years of filming experience, don’t you think this casting decision is a bit off?"
Director Liu smiled warmly at Nangong Lin, "Yes, Xiaolin, you’re absolutely right."
Nangong Lin was relieved and raised an eyebrow, "So are we recasting?"
"However, here’s what I was thinking," Director Liu suddenly spoke, quite seriously, "Initially, Alvin wasn’t confirmed, so the robot role was pre-decided for Empire star Zhang Jian, with whom you’ve worked multiple times. But after Alvin joined, I made some adjustments to the script’s logic. I believe Alvin playing this role makes perfect sense and adds a significant touch to the entire film."
"Huh?" Nangong Lin widened her eyes, "What—what does that mean?"
"Please, hear me out," Director Liu addressed Nangong Lin earnestly, "Firstly, this is a big-budget production with plenty of CG effects. We’ve hired a professional team, and that’s on the production side. On the acting front, we have you, an international award-winning actress, and currently very popular actor, Zheng Huayu. Adding Alvin raises the profile of this film tremendously."
Nangong Lin: "..."
"Just get to the point. The point is, your casting decision is illogical, and the film can’t be made this way!"
"Yes," Director Liu fully understood what Nangong Lin meant. When actors receive scripts, they consider the script’s logic. Some actors may even want to change, add, or delete scenes and will discuss this with the director.
Because if a scene is particularly abrupt, even the actors might not understand what’s going on, making it hard to get into character.
Therefore, directors and actors go through a process of mutual adjustment and discussion. This isn’t the case for all actors—it has to be an experienced veteran like Nangong Lin.
So, facing Nangong Lin’s concerns, Director Liu wasn’t annoyed but instead was eager to communicate with her, because once she was on board, the production would progress quickly.
