Chapter 2004 - 178: Bittersweet Memories
At this moment, someone approached the Third Elder and whispered a few words in his ear.
The Third Elder smiled slightly, with a hint of teasing in his expression as he said, "Indeed, young people cannot endure living apart."
The visitor carefully observed the Third Elder’s expression, "There’s one more thing... Third Elder, the Second Elder came again earlier."
The Third Elder’s brows showed a trace of helplessness: "Why is my second sister still unwilling to give up?"
The Second Elder suffered a great loss beside Yixuan, losing reputation and face entirely. To retaliate, the Second Elder wanted to find an ally, and after considering comprehensively, the Third Elder was a very suitable choice.
Unfortunately, the Third Elder was not interested in this; the two had broken off negotiations over this matter several times, but the Second Elder was too persistent to be dissuaded.
There were some things the Third Elder hadn’t explicitly stated, but to be frank, he actually despised the Second Elder, thinking her intelligence was genuinely too lacking.
"All right, I will go see her myself; it will save her from always bothering me."
The Third Elder set down his teacup and rose to gaze into the distant twilight.
A streak of darkness at the horizon was slowly spreading, and when it swept across the land, it signaled the arrival of night.
...
Dong Huiying and Shu Yu moved into the Qin family with Yixuan, who purposely set aside a secluded and elegant courtyard.
The family lived in this place, while Yun Ge, Hong Fei, Liu Yan and others did not come along.
The next day.
Dong Huiying habitually rose early. There was a separate small kitchen in the courtyard.
When she came to the kitchen, she saw a man in green attire sitting on a stool, feeding the fire in the stove pit.
Dong Huiying paused for a moment. "It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this scene. Why are you up so early?"
Yixuan added another log to the stove pit before smiling softly and looking back at his wife.
"I went to bed quite early last night, so I woke up earlier too."
Dong Huiying chuckled, "Seeing this suddenly, I thought I was back on the mountain again. When we were in Kaoshan Village, we used to do it like this. You fed the fire, I cooked..."
When Dong Huiying mentioned it, Yixuan also remembered those times. "Now that you say it... it really is a bit nostalgic."
Life gradually became affluent, but also increasingly busy. Somewhere along the way, gatherings became rare, and the mundane aspects of daily life seemed to grow more bland.
The two reminisced as they prepared breakfast.
Dong Huiying went to call Liang Yuening and Liang Shuyu for breakfast, but just as she left the kitchen, she saw a Servant Girl carrying the removed bedding coming out of her room.
Dong Huiying paused for a moment and then said, "My quilt is still quite new, why was it suddenly taken apart?"
The Servant Girl respectfully bowed to Dong Huiying.
"Young lady, this is our Qin family’s rule; the masters’ bedding is changed daily."
Dong Huiying thought to herself, could this be the custom of a grand household?
She glanced at the Servant Girl and then waved her hand dismissively, saying, "I don’t have so many rules here, and you don’t need to be too busy. Besides, if the bedding needs to be changed, I can do it myself."
After saying this, Dong Huiying thanked the Servant Girl and then turned to Yue Ning and Shu Yu’s room to wake them one by one.
The rest of the day was spent idly, with Shu Yu being the only one who went out.
