Chapter 201: Destroy the Crystal
Chapter 201: Destroy the Crystal
Andrey planted his feet firmly, staff extended, and positioned himself directly in the path of the Corrosive Toad King. The creature let out a low, rattling croak, its massive body swelling as another wave of corrosive mist began to build around it.
"Keep going!" Andrey shouted to the others. "Don’t stop! Destroy the rest of the crystals!"
The toad’s glowing red eyes locked onto him. It lunged, its massive tongue shooting forward like a spear. Andrey swung his staff, deflecting the strike at the last moment, the impact jarring his arms. He absorbed the force and redirected it, using the momentum to step into the toad’s guard and strike its jaw with a Ki-enhanced blow.
The creature staggered, but its aura flared violently in response. A thick cloud of acidic mist erupted from its body, spreading outward in all directions.
"Gah—!" Andrey felt the burn immediately, the corrosive mist eating at his exposed skin. He activated Damage Absorb, the red energy flaring in his chest as he absorbed the damage, his regeneration working overtime to heal the surface burns.
"Don’t stop!" he shouted again, his voice steady despite the pain. "I can hold it!"
The toad croaked again, the mist growing thicker, and a wave of concentrated acid sprayed toward the others. Lisa’s barrier flickered under the strain, cracks spreading across its surface.
Andrey moved without hesitation. He used Phantom Step to intercept the acid stream, his body taking the brunt of the attack. Damage Absorb flared bright red, the energy building in his chest as he absorbed the corrosive blast.
"Lisa, reinforce the barrier!" he called out, his voice strained but controlled. "Focus on protecting the team! I’ll keep its attention!"
Lisa’s hands glowed brighter, the barrier thickening as she poured more mana into it. The cracks began to seal, the mint-green light stabilizing as the corrosive mist pressed against it.
Sarah unleashed another Pink Nova at a cluster of crystals, shattering them in a burst of pink light. "Two more clusters left!"
Sein launched herself at the next crystal cluster, flames roaring. "Crimson Impact!" Her fist connected with the crystal, shattering it into a shower of red shards. "One more!"
The Corrosive Toad King let out a deep, rumbling croak, its body convulsing as its power weakened. The crystals on the walls flickered dimly, and the mist around it began to thin. But it wasn’t done yet.
With a final surge of desperation, the toad opened its mouth wide and released a massive wave of concentrated acid. The liquid spread across the chamber floor, sizzling and burning through the stone. The team was forced to retreat, their footing becoming precarious.
Andrey stood his ground, his staff planted firmly in the ground. The acid pooled around his feet, eating away at the stone, but he didn’t move. He raised his staff and channeled Ki into it, the metal glowing with pale blue light.
"I’ll clear a path! Focus on the last crystal!"
He swung his staff downward, slamming it into the stone. A wave of Ki energy erupted from the impact, pushing back the acid and creating a clear path for the team.
The toad, seeing its attack fail, lunged toward Andrey, its massive body moving faster than before. Its claws raked across his chest, leaving deep gashes, but Andrey’s Damage Absorb held, storing the energy.
Sein, seeing the opening, leaped toward the last crystal cluster. "This is it! Crimson Cataclysm!" Her flames exploded outward, shattering the final crystal in a burst of crimson fire.
The Corrosive Toad King let out a deafening, agonized croak as its connection to the crystals was severed. Its body convulsed violently, the red glow in its eyes flickering and dying. The aura around it dissolved, the mist dissipating into harmless vapor. Its massive body staggered, then collapsed.

Andrey held the pulsing greenish-black orb in his palm, feeling the faint warmth radiating from its surface. The acidic energy inside hummed softly, contained but potent.
"A crafting material," he said, turning it over. "We can use it to make poison-resistant gear later."
Sein walked over, wiping sweat from her brow. "That thing nearly melted us. At least we got something out of it."
Hope sheathed her greatsword and approached, looking at the core with interest. "I’ve heard of these before, but I’m not entirely sure what they’re used for. Alchemists and blacksmiths usually want them, so it’s probably valuable. Could be useful for crafting or trading."
Lisa moved closer, her hands glowing with gentle healing energy. "Let me check everyone for lingering acid burns. That mist was potent, and it’s better to be safe than to let it settle in your skin and cause problems later."
Sarah floated down, landing with a tired sigh. "That toad was tougher than I expected. Good thing we figured out the crystals before it wore us down completely."
Andrey nodded, stowing the core in his inventory. "We did well. Everyone, take a moment to rest. We still have the floor boss ahead of us, and I have a feeling it won’t be as easy as the mid-boss."
