Chapter 17 is clearly a slap in the face! [Please continue reading]
Linsen Road originated in 1900, when it was built by the Japanese, French and British concessions respectively. The section in the Japanese concession was named "Rong Street", the section in the French concession was named "Bishop Fan Road", and the section in the British concession was named "Oxford Road".
By 1946, the three sections were combined into one road, which was called Linsen Road.
As a bustling street in the center of Jinhai, it is home to many important government agencies in Jinhai.
In addition to the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics and the Garrison Command, the headquarters of the Military Police Command is also located here.
Among them, the 20th Military Police Regiment under its jurisdiction had its barracks at Haiguang Temple, which was the former headquarters of the Japanese North China Garrison Army, and the regimental headquarters was located there.
In early 1946, the regiment was transferred from Zhijiang in Funan to Tianjin and Haikou, with Zeng Jialin as the regimental commander and Yang Ziguang as the deputy regimental commander.
In the early morning, before the summer sun had risen directly overhead, the heat already enveloped the road, and even the distant sea breeze could not completely dispel it.
Just then, a Ford GPW military jeep roared in.
After the victory in World War II, the U.S. military had a large surplus of military supplies, which were all transported to China. As a result, almost all the cars running in major Chinese cities were American-made.
The Ford GPW in front of us is virtually identical to the classic WWII military Jeep Willys MB, featuring a four-cylinder gasoline engine, no doors, a convertible canvas soft top, and even interchangeable parts.
The only difference between the two is that the Ford GPW is manufactured by Ford factories.
These vehicles are short and compact, with a short wheelbase, making them suitable for navigating various alleys and lanes. They are widely used by military, police, and secret service departments.
"Creak..."
Suddenly, the jeep braked sharply and came to a stop on the side of the road.
"Captain Han, shouldn't we just drive straight in?"
In the jeep, Chen Beifa, sitting in the passenger seat, asked Han Tieshan, who was driving.
"What are you thinking? That's headquarters, not a brothel where just anyone can walk in!"
Han Tieshan jokingly scolded Chen Beifa, and after the car came to a stop, he jumped out of the jeep.
"Wait for me in the car!"
"yes!"
Chen Beifa nodded, but a hint of sympathy appeared in his eyes, which Han Tieshan, who had already turned away, did not see.
As this is the entrance to the military police headquarters, the surrounding area is quite bustling with shops.
There were many pedestrians on the road, but Han Tieshan didn't notice that several people were silently approaching him.
As Han Tieshan arrived at the entrance of the military police headquarters, the plainclothes officers suddenly moved and rushed over from all directions, pinning Han Tieshan to the ground without saying a word.
"Who are you? How dare you arrest me? Help! Someone help me!"
Han Tieshan, who was pinned to the ground, was a little dazed, but he quickly reacted and shouted loudly.
Since the incident occurred right outside the military police regimental headquarters, and the arrested individuals were still wearing their uniforms, this immediately alerted two sentries at headquarters, who quickly raised their guns and aimed them at the civilians.
"Stop! What are you doing?"
"Stop it now, or I'll shoot!"
Seeing how dutiful the guards were, the door of the car parked by the roadside was opened, and Hong Zhong slowly stepped out.
He took out his identification and approached the two guards, saying:
"We're from the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics, and we're arresting **. You're obstructing our work; are you trying to give us information too?"
Upon hearing Hong Zhong's words, the two guards were taken aback at first, then glanced at him before quickly putting their guns away.
"No, no, no, I'm not!"
"You little brat, do you think I'm the one you're talking about?"
One of the guards, upon hearing the other's words, immediately spoke up.
Hong Zhong then asked him, "So, are you one of them?"
"Of course not! I have an irreconcilable hatred for **!"
"Then don't get in our way while we're on our business!"
Seeing the two guards acting like they were performing a comedy routine, Hong Zhong didn't bother with them. After all, this was Tianjin, and it was normal for anyone to be able to perform comedy routines!
By the time Hong Zhong turned around, Han Tieshan had already been handcuffed and arrested. When he saw that the person in front of him was the same person he had seen two days ago, he immediately exclaimed:
"Sir, it's a misunderstanding! I'm not a **!"
"You're harboring a criminal on Mount Emei, and you still deny it? Take him away!"
Hong Zhong waved his hand, signaling his subordinates to take the man away. Before leaving, he even kicked Han Tieshan in the butt!
After kicking, he didn't forget to turn his head and glance at the military police headquarters behind him. Even a fool could see that he was provoking them!
-----------------
"Commander, something terrible has happened!"
At the headquarters of the 20th Military Police Regiment, Regiment Commander Zeng Jialin was reading documents when he suddenly heard someone shouting outside. He quickly stuffed the documents in his hand into a stack of documents on the table.
The next second, Deputy Regiment Commander Yang Ziguang barged in.
"Old Yang, what's the panic?"
Seeing her old partner rushing in in such a panic, Zeng Jialin said with some dissatisfaction.
Zeng Jialin, 40 years old this year, graduated from the fifth class of the infantry department of the Whampoa Military Academy. He is a direct descendant of Chiang Kai-shek, which is why he was able to become a colonel and regimental commander at the age of 40.
"Something's happened, Commander!"
Lieutenant Colonel Yang Ziguang, the deputy regimental commander, was two years younger than Zeng Jialin and a graduate of the eighth class of the Whampoa Military Academy.
During the Battle of Nanjing in 1937, he led his troops to block the Japanese army at Guanghua Gate. He took the lead and fought bravely. Despite suffering more than 30 casualties, he still held the position and can be considered an anti-Japanese hero.
"What's wrong?"
"A messenger just reported that Han Tieshan from our regiment was arrested by the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics right outside the headquarters!"
"On what grounds are they arresting people?"
Upon hearing this, Zeng Jialin frowned slightly.
"They say it's Han Tieshan who provided the information, but you and I both know what kind of person Han is. How could he possibly provide information?"
Yang Ziguang said angrily.
"Don't panic, there might be some misunderstanding!"
"What other misunderstanding could there be? They actually went to the entrance of the headquarters to arrest people, and even kicked Old Han's butt in front of the sentry!"
This isn't just spanking Lao Han's butt, it's slapping your face!
"Speak properly!"
Although Zeng Jialin felt that this matter was not simple, it did make him lose face, so he immediately picked up the phone on the table.
"Hello, connect me to the office of the station chief of the Jinhai Station of the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics!"
Shortly after the call connected, Zeng Jialin immediately adopted a calmer tone and said:
"Hello, Station Master Wu? This is Zeng Jialin!"
"Hello, hello, there's something I'd like to ask you!"
"I heard from my subordinates that your Security Bureau arrested our people. Is there some misunderstanding?"
"He provided a confession? How is that possible? I know Han Tieshan's character!"
"Emei Peak harboring spies and incriminating evidence? Well... alright, I understand!"
After hanging up the phone, Zeng Jialin's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
"Commander? What's going on?"
"Let's leave this matter at that; it's best we don't get involved!"
"Why?"
Hearing the regimental commander say this, Yang Ziguang seemed unconvinced.
"Why? I don't think headquarters would want to see a traitor in our regiment, would they?"
"But he..."
"Alright, Lao Yang, Han Tieshan is a cesspool right now, it's best not to touch him."
We still have our own things to do, and we will inevitably have to deal with the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics in the future.
It's not worth offending the Security Bureau for someone like that!
Seeing that Zeng Jialin had said this, despite Yang Ziguang's reluctance, he could only say resentfully in the end:
"Oh well!"
