Pt. 1: Common misconceptions about marketing
Yes, we know.. this is probably one of THE most used titles in the blogmosphere. However, Novelty Marketing has been helping clients reach different results through offering a range of services since 2015 and let’s just say we learned a few things along the way.
Closing of 2019, and starting 2020 with new trends and possibilities, we just wanted to share a few of the most common misconceptions in marketing we’ve learned so far. Perfect for you to know while you’re constructing your marketing approach for the next 12 months.
Throughout the years’ different companies from start-ups, entrepreneurs to medium size local legends and international corporations have come to us to help with one or more marketing services. However, we have seen that there are certain (high) expectations related to certain marketing tools that aren’t exactly the way it is. These are some of the most common misconceptions we have seen.
I DO NOT NEED A WEBSITE – I HAVE FACEBOOK
A common trend we have seen, at least in Aruba, is that start-ups and businesses choose a Facebook page over a website to promote their business and products. Some businesses only have a Facebook Page and use that as their sole online presence. Don’t get us wrong – Social Media is an important part of your Marketing Strategy, it is not, however, the only tool you should have your bets on. Reasons to not make Facebook your only go-to place?
1. It’s not yours – Facebook owns your page! 2. Search Engine Optimization is not ideal 3. While this service is expanding – Insights and Analytics are still less advanced than Google 4. Design Limitations
5. Your competitors can advertise on your Facebook page 6. If you want people to see your content, you must pay to compete against all the other billions of FB pages around the world and are limited in what you can or cannot promote.
WELL, I HAVE A WEBSITE – BUT NO ONE IS BOOKING / BUYING MY SERVICES
Yeey, you invested in a website! Good for you! Now, what do we do? Again, while a website is a must for any business, just sending it out into the world-wide-web, does not mean you can be found automatically. Your website can be stunning, and clear, easy and mobile-friendly – but when no one knows you have a website or no one can find you, the whole purpose of this investment is lost. Whenever you are creating a website by a designer, make sure they SEO proof your website with the latest techniques. Also, start to consider investing in Google Advertising campaigns to get the right people to your website!
I USE SOCIAL MEDIA ALL THE TIME. HOW HARD CAN IT BE?
We understand! Social Media is literally an integral part of our day to day lives. You probably use Facebook and Instagram on an hourly basis (If you really want to know how much time you spend on social media, turn on your tracking settings on your phone... let’s just say – it’s probably more than you think ;-))
However, there are different reasons why you should hire or consult an expert.
First, your business pages should serve your business and every post should have a certain purpose behind them.
Second, it is important to create a routine and consistency, which might be difficult when you are also responsible for the daily operations of your business, and
Third – the possibilities Facebook and Instagram offer change and optimize constantly. Hiring help to navigate this landscape can be beneficial to get the biggest return on investment.
Do you recognize any of these misconceptions above? We understand! Take the tips above, and start mapping out your strategies for the coming 12 months and stay tuned for our next blog, where we dive deeper into all the new trends in Marketing and how you can incorporate them for your business!
